Frequently Asked Questions

Am I eligible for the Turf Replacement Program if I no longer have living turfgrass on my property?

Yes! The living turfgrass requirement is waived for all properties within the impact zones of the 2025 wildfires. Your address will be checked against the CalFire incident map, and if you are within the impact zone, your application will be approved.

I received a rebate for turf replacement and/or a water-efficient device prior to 2025. Am I eligible to receive another one?

Yes! The one rebate per address limit is waived for all properties within the fire impact zones. You may receive another turf replacement or device (e.g., toilet, weather-based irrigation controller, washing machine, etc.) rebate as part of your rebuild.

What if I am just outside of the official impact zone, but my landscaping was damaged and my turfgrass was either lost or contaminated?

If you are within one mile of the impact zone and do not have living turfgrass due to the wildfires, you may also be eligible for the Turf Replacement rebate. Please include pictures of the damage to your landscaping, and your application will be reviewed for eligibility.

When should I apply?

We understand that rebuilding can be a demanding process. We recommend that you do not apply for the turf replacement rebate until you are ready to begin landscaping work. You will have 180 days to complete your project once approved and can request an extension if needed.

I just found out about the Turf Replacement Program and I already re-landscaped. Can I apply now and receive the rebate?

Unfortunately, we are unable to approve and issue rebates for projects that have already been completed. Property owners must apply before work begins and wait for approval before beginning construction.
